Condom Burst Almost Ruined My Life- Sheriff 20
"She took my phone number so that we could catch up later"
This happened late last year. As an active member in my church, I interact in most cases with other youth like myself, most of whom were girls. In one of these interactions, a girl who had recently finished high school and was a frequent churchgoer came to enquire about certain information regarding applications to university. I could not share the information fully due to time constraints, so she took my phone number so that we could catch up later.
I ended up inviting her to my house
We met later and I helped her to apply for university placement and this made her so happy. It resulted in our bond becoming stronger since we would communicate more often. Our conversations over the few days that followed turned more and more sentimental and then romantic. We started having a few dates here and there and I ended up inviting her to my house one day.
We had sex
As we watched a movie having dimmed the lights, she came close to me and I held her tighter in my arms. She caressed me and I went further ahead and kissed her and in the heat of the moment, we went all the way into sex. I had condoms in the house and I knew very well that failing to use one would be a risk for both of us, pregnancy if not sexually transmitted diseases. I put on a condom and we had sex.
The condom had burst
After having sex, I noticed the condom had burst. This made me so confused because I did not feel it happening and the mess had already been done. My partner was in shock and could not utter a word. I sat there wondering what I had done wrong. I was scared by the fact that she could get pregnant and the risk of contracting sexually transmitted diseases that were staring at me.
Seeking help
I called a friend of mine and he encouraged us to go to the nearest hospital for medical assistance. We had a counselling session on sexual and reproductive health and the girl was given an emergency contraceptive to prevent the pregnancy. We were tested for HIV and screened for sexually transmitted infections and the results for both of us were negative. I learnt more about the right way to put on a condom, which made me realize that I have been doing it the wrong way. After going home, I did more research on the internet about the same for better understanding.
Knowledge is power
I would like to encourage people to learn the right way to put on a condom. Putting on a condom in the wrong way is one of the causes of condom bursts. If a condom bursts, it is good for you and your partner to go to the hospital as soon as possible to get medical assistance just like I did.
