STI Testing: Do I need my guardian consent

Generally a parent’s consent is not required to get tested for STIs nor is your doctor required to inform your parents of your decision to do so.

However, there may be certain facilities where, for one reason or another, a health care provider will require parental permission.

Check with your health care provider and ask him or her about authorization requirements and confidentiality guidelines and policies.

If you are not satisfied with the answer, try another health care facility.
