Sexual abuse: How to get help and heal

If you are a survivor of sexual abuse it is normal to feel like you will never heal and be free from the abuse.

However, there are steps you can take to help yourself recover and heal but it is important to note that healing takes time, so you need to be patient and take it day by day. 

You can do the following: 

  1. Write down your thoughts in a diary to help you answer questions like how you are feeling today and what you want to do to make you feel better: 
  2. Do the things you enjoy doing like taking a walk outside during the day
  3. Eat a balanced diet and exercise regularly 
  4. Get enough sleep
  5. Hang out with friends who make you feel better about yourself. 
  6. Don’t be hard on yourself. Just be kind to yourself and understand that it takes time to heal and it is okay to feel sad or upset some days
  7. Get support by seeing or talking to a counselor who can help you work through your feelings. You can also talk to our counselor here (Link to chatroom)
