First dates can be tricky-Michaela 23

“… each time convincing myself that I looked like a clown or a fashion disaster.”

As the clock ticked down to my first date with B, my nerves were doing a flamenco dance in my stomach. I had gone through five outfit changes, each time convincing myself that I looked like a clown or a fashion disaster. In a last-minute hurry, I even managed to spill juice on my shirt, and there I was, trying to rub it from my outfit before the date.

 First awkward impression

As I finally arrived at the restaurant, my heart decided to set a new world record for its beats per minute. I mustered all my courage and walked in, only to find B waiting there, looking as dashing as ever. Of course, I chose that exact moment to trip over a non-existent pebble and perform an impromptu interpretive dance of gracelessness. If clumsiness were an Olympic sport, I'd have earned a gold medal.

He tried to make me feel comfortable.

B, bless his heart, had the kindness not to burst out laughing but offered a reassuring smile. That should have calmed my nerves, right? Wrong. Now, I was worrying about something stuck in my teeth every time I spoke.

The magical connection

But as we started talking, something magical happened. We shared stories, laughed about the most absurd things, and discovered our mutual love for romcoms. The initial awkwardness melted away like ice cream on a hot summer day. At one point, B leaned in to tell a particularly hilarious joke, and I couldn't help but snort in response. Yes, I snorted like a pig. But instead of the earth swallowing me whole, we both burst into laughter and suddenly, my embarrassment transformed into a shared joke that we would remember for years to come.

The mishaps brought us together.

As the evening came to an end, I realized that all the nervousness and clumsiness had only added to the charm of the night. B confessed that he had been just as jittery, afraid he'd accidentally knock over a glass of water or mispronounce something from the menu and look shady.

Looking forward to a future of fun

So, there we were, two nervous wrecks who had turned a potentially awkward situation into a hilarious and memorable first date. As we said our goodbyes, I couldn't help but look forward to a future filled with more laughs, snorts, and perhaps a few more spectacular displays of clumsiness because with B, it seemed like every misstep was just a step towards something wonderful and that was what happened on my first date.
